A fantastic voyage or journey to some old school fun, recreation, and friends. A time for meeting, greeting and just hanging out with family, and friends old and new. We were privileged to meet some of the greatest musicians and performers of our beloved Rhythm and Blues Music from the 1970’s. We traveled by bus leaving the Bronx, NY to Hershey, PA. Our bus captain, coordinator/facilitator was Martha Hunter. She is one of the most gracious coordinator/hostesses you will ever know who not only facilitated the monthly payments for my group, but kept us updated on smaller yet important details and was always available to troubleshoot or answer any questions. For instance taking time out of her busy schedule to assisted the sister who wanted to know if there would be someone available to do her makeup for the Semi-formal Awards Dinner on Saturday. The Bronx bus coordinated by Martha featured old school jams, a full course lunch, drinks & raffles as well as some of our local celebrities (Apollo Theatre winners) we had a ball. Arriving at the Hershey Lodge went smoothly we all received key/cards to our deluxe double queen-bedded rooms from very friendly hotel staff. And then the excitement began with a meet and greet reception, live performances, talk show and comedian in the Lobby as well as vendors, vendors, vendors! The hotel including indoor outdoor pool, restaurants & giftshop also offered shuttle transportation to the amusement park as well as to outlet shopping, however there was so many scheduled activities and events we had no need to leave the hotel until departure on Sunday. All meals were included buffet style, except for the Awards Dinner on Saturday evening at which we were served at our tables. Our group of ladies totally enjoyed the 70’s costume party, we danced like we were 20 years old again in our 70’s styled outfits. Most of the activities went on into the night, we met old friends and made new ones. Taking pictures was a must, and there was a photo shoot included for all who purchased the t-shirt. The performers made themselves available to take pictures with you or your group. The main event was the concert including some of the top names in R&B Soul music, The Delphonics & Blue Magic were my favorites, oh my! Each year is so enjoyable you’ll be sure to return the next with more friends who enjoy 70’s R&B music. I would like to thank Mr. Maurice Watts and Mr. Lincoln Sessoms and associates for organizing such a wonderful event and for 13yrs. of excellent entertainment as well as the empowerment talk sessions, line dancing and Zumba. You guys are the best! May the Lord bless you, as you keep on, keeping on!!!
